Ken Zieska’s 1/64th scale model railroad circles the basement to offer the most generous runs possible. From a visible staging yard, the railroad runs through the downstairs bathroom, behind the shower and through the laundry room to reach the Industrial Beltline. Two switching areas, the 27th Ave/Northeast job and the Downtown Switching District leave the Beltline to serve industrial customers. Operations sessions on these areas typically last 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Trains continuing west along the Industrial Beltline briefly duck out of view reentering the scene along the RumanSota River where the Beltline joins the mainline. Trains bound for Centralsota and Asuncion take this route for another loop around the basement. At Heartland Junction the Minnesota Heartland trains leave the mainline and proceeds to Centralsota. Mainline trains will continue, switching PowderMilk Milling and the industries of Asuncion where they turn for the trip back to visible staging. These operations also run 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Ken’s layout shows that S Scale is alive and well.
